Happy Easter, Mama!

March 23, 2008 at 8:12 pm | Posted in family, Video | 4 Comments

My mother has been anticipating Easter for weeks now, starting to ask us what our plans to celebrate the holiday were back in late February — would we like to spend Easter with her? At her house? At our house? Could we have ham?

If it wasn’t for her, I don’t think Sean and I would notice that today was Easter. I told my mother that Yes we would love to celebrate with her, and Yes she could come stay the night to wake up to a proper Easter, with baskets for the dogs from the Easter bunny.

I have to admit, I was not looking forward to this weekend.

Easter Shmeester, I said.

When I picked her up last night after work, she said, “I’ve been packing here and there for a few days now.” I could tell she was really looking forward to celebrating with us (she even wrote out a grocery list), and her excitement was contagious; I started to get more and more excited about the weekend.

And for good reason. This weekend with the three of us (+ dogs) has been absolutely phenomenal. We had way too much fun and I ended up taking 733 pictures.

Here are a few of them:

We cooked breakfast, and Easter dinner. We watched movies and went walking at the beach. We laughed all weekend and had a great time just hanging around spending time together. I felt like a kid again having my mom here to spend the holiday, and she seemed to glow with happiness.

I hope your Easter was just as lovely.

Don’t fence her in!

I posted this on the dogs’ blog, but I just had to post it here, too.   Sometimes the two of them make me shake my head in disbelief.  Is it the same way with children?

I love everything about this video from last night.  I especially love the half of waggly tail, the fact that Sam is so mellow even when he’s not, and Jazzy’s hatred for bell-bottom jeans.

Yes folks, this is what my typical evening looks like.  A bit crazy?  Yes.  A lot of fun?  You bet.

Luckily for us, we’ve learned how to shop at the dollar store for his “babies”.

So much fun!

We had a fantastic time at our sleepover last night! Gavin was the perfect guest and we spent the whole time playing. Gavin took some of these pictures with the camera remote for the sleepover video:

However, having a five year old around is tiring; Sean, Sam, and I — recovering from a child-hangover — slept the whole afternoon.

We love you, Gavin!

Is football season over yet?

Having a new house has its advantages.  For instance, friends like to come over and bring homemade cakes and flowers.

On Sunday night, we lit our first fire in the fireplace….

…and Sarah and Greg came over to watch the Giants beat the Packers in the qualifying game for the superbowl.

They baked us a cheesecake for the game and we all sat around for hours, the boys enjoying themselves, and Sarah and I pretending to enjoy ourselves, while football season died down to almost the LAST GAME.  Praise Allah and all that is good.

I don’t understand football.  I mean, I get the game — a bunch of men in helmets and tights run a football down a field and have four chances to make it to the yellow line.  They jump on each other, run into each other, and break each others’ teeth and bones, Yippee — but what I don’t understand is why men feel the success of their team is a matter of life and death.

Watch Sean’s reaction to when the Giants win:

I don’t get it.  Why is the superbowl such a huge deal?  It happens every. year.

Today has been chock full of fun things to do. Carrie and Laura came over in the morning, we celebrated Gavin’s 5th birthday party in the afternoon, and my friends Greg and Sarah are on their way over for some Sunday night football.

Until I can come up with a few hours to sort through pictures and videos, here is a video I took of Sam and I this morning as we attempted to dance to some Elton John. Sammy didn’t seem as thrilled as I was to be dancing.

The procedure

January 17, 2008 at 9:23 pm | Posted in family, sick, Video | 6 Comments

This morning’s endoscopy was an acid trip. I don’t remember most of being in the hospital (and of course I was knocked out cold during the actual procedure), but what I do remember is pretty funny.

First off, the not so fun part. I was scared. So scared. It’s silly, really, how scared I was to be put under anesthesia. The camera down my throat thing excited me and I knew once it was all over, I’d be happy to have this rare opportunity to see the inside of my stomach.

Once Sean left for the waiting room and they wheeled me into that room, my heart rate shot up dangerously high to 153 BPM. The nurses and anesthesiologist seemed quite concerned; a normal heartbeat should be less than 100 beats per minute. Next I knew, I was awake and had been talking to my Love for quite some time without recollection.

After they put me out and performed the endoscopy, my morning became a fantastic acid trip. Once I woke up I couldn’t stop laughing and saying “THIS IS WONDERFUL!” to all of the nurses. One of them said that I was the happiest endoscopy patient she had ever had. But seriously, I felt like kissing everyone for giving me such a fun operation.

Upon waking up, I asked my small mustached Jewish doctor if I farted during the operation. This, to me, was something I really needed to know. He acted awkwardly, as if he had just peed himself on stage at some award show, and told me that no, you didn’t fart, you were a perfect and classy patient.

About the results: The good and bad news is that the pictures came back looking not so great. I don’t have an ulcer, but my esophagus and stomach are lined with patches of red blotches.  The doctor  suspects the medications I was given to treat my Lyme were the culprit. We’re not sure really what is causing the irritation, but at least I feel better knowing that I’m one step closer to finding out why my stomach is in a constant state of discomfort.  I’ll wait to hear more from the results of my two biopsies on Monday.

The best part of today followed the endoscopy. Sean stayed with me until my sister could arrive, and then we picked up my mother and the three of us girls spent the entire day together.

Throughout this whole thing, Sean has been taking great care of me. He wouldn’t even let me fold an afghan this morning. He told me that I told all of the nurses this morning how much I loved him at every opportunity I found. I don’t remember mentioning my love for Sean at all. I guess being in love will do that to a person.

I’m glad that I don’t have to be conscious to proclaim to complete strangers how lucky I am to have found my soul mate.

Since I have too many pictures…

Here’s a video of what’s been happening for the last two weeks.  I included our family Christmas, too.

Welcome home buddy!

Sammy came “home” today for a temporary stay here at the condo until we hopefully can move into our house next week.  He’s been a perfect angel so far.  He slept in the car, he ran with us in the park and then headed himself to the car when he had had enough exercise, behaved wonderfully in Petsmart, and is now sleeping peacefully in his bed.

Sean and I are in love with him already.  So sweet, so patient, so chill.

Sean has been adorable, too.  He went outside and packed down a thirty-foot path so that the dog can poop on grass.  I have a feeling that Sammy Oscar is going to be a very happy dog for the rest of his sweet doggie years.

Our family can dance!!!
