Love and puppy blackmail

It’s Friday. Finally. Sean came home last night and by the time I got home from work at around nine, he had prepared an incredible dinner for us.  I’m lucky.

I think Jasmine missed Sean as much as I did.

And today is Friday which usually means that I usually have two more days of work left in my week, but I was able to take tomorrow off to prepare for a big party we’re having here on Sunday. Me? Not have to work on Saturday? Phenomenal.

It’s a rainy dreary day around here, which can only mean one thing….

Oh, I am so showing this picture to their significant others when they get older.

Breaking in the new bedroom set

No dogs were harmed in this photo shoot. This is why they call it “puppy love”.

Now 3AM and middle-aged

Since I still can’t sleep, I’ll share with you a revelation we stumbled upon today.

Sean and I were finishing up the monotonous chore of painting our bedroom in time for the arrival of our new furniture on Wednesday morning. The dogs were sleeping in their respective corners and Sean had completed his task of paint rolling.

All that was left to do now was trim, and I hate trimming. Sean mentioned that since his work was done he was going to hop outside for a smoke and then start work on vacuuming the downstairs.

So I said, “Daddy, do you want to take the babies outside with you?”

And he answered, “They just went, I think they’d rather sleep up here with you, Mommy.”

And then we realized… (cue sudden awareness music)… Sean and I used to make fun of couples that called each other Daddy and Mommy when their kids weren’t even in the room and now we were doing it.

But we don’t have kids yet! I’m not even middle aged yet! And since we’ve adopted them we’ve been throwing around the terminology: Daddy, Mommy, Son, Daughter.

Not that we’re going to stop calling each other those silly terms. I just wanted to make us all aware that Sean and I are now officially annoying dorks, and we really love our dogs.

For your sake, I promise that I’ll try not to call him Daddy when you come to visit, unless I mean it in a kinky way. Har har.

I blame it on Ashley

March 31, 2008 at 1:20 am | Posted in Love for the internet, Puppy | 6 Comments

The time is now 1:08AM and I’m awake and browsing the internet. I blame my insomnia on Ashley.

This is Ashley:

And this is her new baby, Burrito:

I recently met Ashley through Blog365 — blogging every day for a year (I know, we’re crazy) — and it seems that she and I have a lot in common: we’re madly in love, new homeowners, photographers, and the mothers to adorable little puppy faces.

So just as I post pictures of Sam and Jazzy on my blog, Ashley does the same for her Chloe and new baby Burrito. So whenever she posts a new picture or video of this infinitely cute baby, I call Sean into the room to see him.

“LOOK AT LITTLE (insert 1,000 synonyms for cute) BURRITO!!!”

Today on our drive to Best Buy to buy a new flat screen TV(!), Sean and I were talking about how freaking cute Burrito is and how we kind of wish we had a little Burrito ourselves.

I said to him, “Someday when Sammy and Jasmine are all grown up, I think we should get a third puppy. But not now. OKay, maybe now. But not really. But did you see Burrito fit through that doggy door!!”

Sean replies, “If we get a third — and we’re not getting a third, by the way — we should name him Chalupa. Then there would be Burrito and Chalupa.”

So even though we’re not getting a third, I’m looking at rescue puppies on the internet. Because, I love our two so much, and because Ashley’s dog is way to frickin’ cute.

All photos in this post were taken by Ashley Forrette.

PS. We’re seriously not getting a third.

Today was spent making over our house, our hair, and our dogs.

I painted half of our room Irish green this morning because I am impatient and could no longer stand the project hanging over my head. Our new bedroom set will be delivered here in a few weeks and so I began the ever exciting task of painting. See bedroom set:

Sean trimmed his beard and I cut his hair today, too. The poor man has been looking a little spikey lately and I haven’t had much time to double as his hairdresser. So we decided today before we left the house, the hair needed to be cut.

And MY, he is so handsome.

I also got around to calling the groomers, and Sammy Oscar was quickly scheduled for his first out-of-home grooming experience. He wasn’t dirty when we dropped him off and the groomer sort of gave me a weird look because he was already clean — we bathe them once a week — but I really wanted him to get his toenails cut and his poop glands squeezed and I couldn’t bring myself to do either task. Besides, Sammy is a little queen and he likes to be spoiled. So we dropped him off at the spa while we went grocery shopping. Our dirty dog is on the left, the clean scented one is on the right:

When we picked him up, our car smelled like a pumpkin spice Yankee Candle. Our house is starting to smell like a pumpkin spice Yankee Candle. Who knew that spending way too much money on a “wash and brush” would double as an air freshener!

Jasmine has her “wash, brush, AND cut” scheduled for Tuesday morning. I can’t wait to see how she looks when she is done because we plan on cutting her hair quite short. Sean has requested that she come home smelling like peach Yankee Candle. I’ll see what I can do.

I also bought a little towel rack for the bathroom today. Sean just walked by the bathroom door and shouted, “Hey! Nice rack!” and I blushed a little and giggled. Ooh la la, he likes my rack. Now, Sean is proper, so I’ll pretend that I didn’t set up that new shelfing unit in the bathroom and assume he is talking about my boobs.

Thank goodness for Grandmas

My mother has spent the last two afternoons babysitting Jasmine for me while I was at work. I didn’t dare leave the little pooper in her crate and I couldn’t bare leaving her alone without extra TLC to make it through her crappy stomach bug. I know when I was little my mother always took extra special care of me to make me feel better and she’s been doing the same for Jazzy B, too.

I don’t think I would’ve survived the last few days without my mother here. She’s helped me clean the house, walk the dogs, and kept me company through this sleepless start to a week. Since I took time off for Jasmine yesterday, I went to work today on my day off and although I would’ve rather spent the day at home, I knew my babies were in good hands.

On a subject other than my dogs, I can’t wait to crawl in bed with my Love and hopefully, hopefully, I will afford the luxury of sleeping through a rare poopless night.

Thanks, Mom!

Poop update

March 10, 2008 at 6:45 am | Posted in Puppy | 5 Comments

Remember in my last post how I said that Jasmine was “fine now”? Well that was wishful thinking. The poor little shitter woke me up EVERY HOUR last night to poop in the backyard. I guess I should be thankful that she had the decency to wake me up at all, and that all of the cow pies made it out into the yard rather than on our bedroom carpet.

She’s not acting strange so I’m not too worried that she is suffering from some sort of intestinal bug, I’m assuming that perhaps she ate some polyester stuffing from a toy, or a sock, or a light bulb. To be cautious, we’ve stopped giving them the fancy grilled chicken treats. Sam seems to have no effects and is pooping solid, so we figure it probably isn’t something wrong with their food source.

With little sleep this morning, however, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I did my research on the internet rather than spending a truckload of money on a vet visit. I bought Jazzy B some plain yogurt, white rice, and a bottle of Pepto Bismol. Unfortunately, I bought the liquid Pepto rather than the pill form, not knowing that even the smell of mint makes my dogs show their teeth as if they had just eaten the most sour lemon known to man.

The solution? I mixed the Pepto with the yogurt and the rice and Jazzy managed to slurp it down. She apparently loves yogurt that much. I’m debating on taking a half day to monitor her bowels, and making up the time on my day off.

I wish I could just give Jasmine some of my iron pills. She’d be clogged up right good in no time.

My last post didn’t post

March 9, 2008 at 7:04 pm | Posted in Puppy | 2 Comments

I just wrote a whole long post (which was somehow lost by the internet) about how Jasmine ate something that didn’t agree with her and has been shitting water all day long. I’ve bathed her more than I have ever wanted to bathe a dog in my life. She’s fine now. We had fun at Black Rock State Park today. I told you all about it in my lost post, but you can pretty much sum up the day by looking at these photos: Aside from the pooping, we had fun.

“Guess what your son did today…”

March 5, 2008 at 9:46 pm | Posted in Puppy | 5 Comments

I’m not sorry to blog about my dog again, but here goes: As soon as I woke up this morning, I threw on a pair of jeans, a hooded sweatshirt, boots, and my winter coat and walked the dogs down to the field by our house for some roaming exercise. I was hoping they’d both get a long run in so that they’d be sleepy and take naps after I left for work, but Sam just keep walking in slow circles, combing one particular area.

So much for running.

I thought he had to poop and figured every one should find a spot they are comfortable when performing such intimate business and Sammy is no exception, so I let him scope out the perfect pooping target.

But he didn’t poop, and after ten minutes of letting him sniff out the same spot I began to turn and start walking toward our house. I looked back once more at Sam to find him with a big lump of crap in his mouth. Disgusting!

“DROP IT!!!!!!!!!!!” I yelled, and quickly realized that the crap had legs. Sam did as he was told and dropped the leggy poop at my feet and I examined his near breakfast.

It was a mouse. A dead mouse. That Sam had sniffed out from buried under the snow.

After nearly vomiting in my own mouth from the first thought of eating someone else’s shit, and then the second thought of eating a dead mouse, I realized that Sam did just what he was made to do: hounds are hunters.

I praised him, “Good boy Sam!” and pet him on the head as if he had just fetched me a winning lottery ticket.

As we walked the ten minutes toward our house, Sam almost frolicked with happiness. His ears flopped with each bouncy step as if he knew that he had just done a great service to hounds everywhere.

Needless to say, he won’t be licking my face tonight.

I love everything about this video from last night.  I especially love the half of waggly tail, the fact that Sam is so mellow even when he’s not, and Jazzy’s hatred for bell-bottom jeans.

Yes folks, this is what my typical evening looks like.  A bit crazy?  Yes.  A lot of fun?  You bet.
