No dogs were harmed in this photo shoot. This is why they call it “puppy love”.

On cleaning

March 20, 2008 at 9:25 am | Posted in Home | 7 Comments

We have a big house — or at least it is much bigger than the small condo we were used to previously — and we are constantly trying to clean it.  We must vacuum twice a week, clean the kitchen every three seconds, and still the mess grows.

Do you ever feel like your whole life is cleaning?

One mission completed

We FINALLY finished painting the second coat in the living room this week.  I thought we’d never rid ourselves of that blue painting tape.  Doesn’t Sean look so thrilled to be at work at home at night on a weekday?

We’re having a slumber party here tonight. Our house guest is already asleep and we are soon to join him. More pictures to follow.

Him and Hers

Sean has been counting the seconds to today’s Giants football game since last Sunday. Today we had plenty to do and Sean kept saying, “As long as we’re home by 4 o’clock for the game….”Throughout the day we ran errands and saw our wonderful families and while Sean dreamt of football, I kept thinking, “I hope I can go shopping today…” because I had a gift card (!) and I have been craving some retail therapy all week long.

We made it home in almost enough time to watch the kick off and as soon as those sportscasters started narrating and screaming into their microphones, I was out the door and at Pier One.

As much as we love each other, Sean would die if he had to spend that much time in a store, and I can’t stand being in the same state as a football game. I’m glad we spent most of the day together, but I’m even more glad that I went shopping.

In other news, My Uncle John and Aunt Karen gave us their dining room table today. We love it. Here is a picture of the dining room, complete with a new place to dine. Notice that Sammy just had to be in the picture. That dark square object in the corner is his crate. Sam now rules the kingdom of dining room. However, he is an easy king to bribe… just give him a cookie or a pig ear and he’ll let you eat here.

Housekeeping

I woke Sean up early this morning with breakfast in bed.

Nothing fancy: coffee, waffles, and apple slices.

I left for work ten minutes later and he woke up deciding that he should clean this entire house! He unpacked everything in the dining room and the kitchen, plucked the staples from the wood floor left behind from our carpet removal project last week, did the dishes, and cooked us an incredible dinner.

While we were sitting at the table in our sparkling kitchen, I commented again at what a beautiful job he did with the house today. I asked him, “Did you do all of this just because I made you breakfast in bed this morning?”

I asked this even though I already knew the answer.

Sean replied, “No. I did all of this because I love you.”

Ta-da!

Finally got internet back! YES!!!!! I don’t think I could’ve made it another day.

We ripped up the living room carpet last night and discovered that the hardwood floors underneath are awesome.

Sean is quite the handyman and he and I can’t stop making renovations on the house. Today, after days and days of no sleep and all work, we relaxed on the couch a bit.

And then, after a few hours, it was back to work. This time, to install a wine rack:

The house is a mess and there are boxes simply everywhere. But we can’t be bothered with it all because we OWN A HOUSE and not only that, but we have THEE BEST DOG EVER. Seriously, no accidents, not much chewing, a great sweet-loving pup. Sammy took some getting used to, but Sean and I are smitten.

And now I have two boys who gather in front of the television set on Saturday and Sunday afternoons to fart, eat, and watch football. Really, what more could a girl ask for.

Salad n’ paint

January 2, 2008 at 2:33 pm | Posted in Home | 4 Comments

Tonight we made our first real meal in the new house:  Salad, Italian-style chicken, and tomato basil noodles.  We had to clear a spot in the kitchen to sit down and enjoy our supper, and Sean and I didn’t seem to mind that we were surrounded by boxes and bags and sharing the kitchen table with a huge television set.

Sammy helped make the salad and ate his first cucumber slice.

After dinner, we painted the second coat of our red dining room as we watched the DVD of Full Metal Jacket for the sixth time since yesterday.  Literally.  This was the sixth time we’ve watched this movie in two days.

This house is starting to feel more like home and I am astounded with how different it looks from just one week ago.  The work never ends though, it’s as if we haven’t sat down since we moved into this house on December 21st.

Updation:

Well, we bought the house and are all moved in!!!  I basically live in the new bathtub and we love the new place.  We painted my office this weekend and started putting things away.  I’m blogging from my brother-in-law Scott’s house and I am itching to have my own internet connection set up.  Thanks for all of the well wishes and I hope you all have a fantastic Christmas, and if I don’t get online sooner, a happy new year, too!

Finally!

We supposedly close on the house at 11:30 this morning.  We won’t have internet in the new place until January 5th, so blogging may be scarce, but I’ll keep you updated. 🙂

Unhinged

December 19, 2007 at 7:29 am | Posted in Agitated, Home | 2 Comments

I don’t think we can take much more of this stress. Give us our house or go away forever so we can pick up the pieces of our shattered lives. We have a large dog living with us in a small condo. He’s been great, really, but it’s time for us to move into our house now. I’m afraid to leave him alone because he’ll probably bark once I leave.

I just keep holding on to the idea of relaxing in our tub as soon as they give us the key, letting Sam run around in the backyard without worrying what the neighbors think, talking to Sean without him bringing up some stressful comment which makes me panic at how this stress is engulfing him.

I’m watching an infomercial on colon cleansing. Today is my last day off from work and the day that the cable was supposed to be installed in the new house. Instead of getting all of the moving done this week as planned, we have done nothing but wait.

Seriously, PLEASE GIVE US OUR HOUSE.

Slow going

Still no house progress. At least we spoke with our mortgage broker today. She didn’t call voluntarily as we had hoped, so our lawyer called her and ripped her a new one. I believe his words to us were, “Well, she hasn’t heard me scream yet.” I love our lawyer.

We have a few more steps to take to complete the house buying and Sean keeps saying, “We’re going to be homeless in two weeks!” Luckily, Sean’s dad offered to take Sammy on Saturday while our current landlord comes by to inspect the premises. We may own the house by then anyhow, but the babysitting offer warms our hearts.

We’re stressed. We’re tired. We haven’t even thought about Christmas. But we’ve been getting plenty of exercise and smiles thanks to our new four-legger.

Check the sidebar: Sammy’s got a blog. 🙂

Waiting for Sammy
