I posted this picture on the day I got my new job. Fast forward to today, nine months later. Today I was notified of a salary increase. I got a raise! Just one more reason for me to love my job!!!

Sean and I are going to go celebrate with some pajamas and American Idol.

You’ll have to excuse us… we’re getting ready for our first Easter with our new pups (and Mom is sleeping over!!!) and we don’t have much time to blog.

In the meantime, check out this video of this disturbing rabbit we found in Wal*Mart. I probably should’ve bought it, but I just couldn’t bring myself to spend ten dollars on such crap. Happy Easter!!!

The houseguest

Meggie spent the night on Tuesday and fell quickly in love with the pups. She’s a dog person. We don’t see each other as often as we’d like and this was her first time seeing the new house. We watched American Idol and hung around in our pajamas (seems to be the theme of my week) until late into the night.

She painted us the most amazing picture of Sammy for a housewarming present. I nearly fell over from disbelief at how incredible this painting is. Tell me you don’t see the exact resemblance:

Ahh, to have girlfriends like Meg!

Peas and quiet

It seems quiet no longer exists around here but we don’t mind. We’ve always got someone trailing at our feet, cuddling on our covers, licking our bathwater. This morning I awoke to Jasmine eating my favorite bra. Right now they are playing soccer through the house. We don’t consider them our dogs, they are our children, and they are just as much work.

Sean is so cute with them. He always calls them his “kids”. Last night as we were all getting tucked in for bed Sean knelt by Sammy’s bed and started speaking in a sweet quiet voice, soothing Sam to sleep. I wish I could bottle that moment.

I’m waiting for spring

Spring has returned. The Earth is like a child that knows poems.

~Rainer Maria Rilke

We were going to light a fire tonight, but the weather is so beautiful out and Sean is having second thoughts. Since I’m always cold, I’m sitting in front of the space heater as I type.

Sean is in high spirits today, to be expected on Superbowl Sunday. He’s already parked in front of the television, four hours before the big game.

I am happy; work is going well, we love our new house, we couldn’t have a sweeter puppy, and we’re madly in love.

We’re having a slumber party here tonight. Our house guest is already asleep and we are soon to join him. More pictures to follow.

Back to schoooooool!

Suddenly I found myself sitting in the cafeteria being coerced into registering for college.  Peer pressure, I guess, my coworker decided to enroll in two IT 16-week long online courses and within two minutes I had the college registrars on the phone.

My company pays for me to go to college, and I’ve always been a little computer geeky, so this will be a good opportunity to get some tech support recognition under my belt.  And for free!

Online college is no UConn — there will be no concerts or writing seminars, streaking through the halls at 3AM, underage drinking, or dining halls — but I am excited nonetheless.

Learning?  For free?  What is this phenomenon you speak of?

Sean’s baby brother isn’t such a baby anymore.  Gavin turned five today.  He was very excited about his birthday this year and celebrated in school with CHOCOLATE CUPCAKES!  Happy birthday Gavin Boy!

I hope you like jammin’, too.

Sean drove me to the hospital this morning for a scheduled upper GI scan.

The good news: I don’t have stomach cancer.
The bad news: we don’t know what is causing the pain.

I’m losing weight steadily even though I’m eating like a horse. I almost hoped that the scans today would show that I have a giant portal in my belly, transporting my food to some third world country. A portal would explain why I am eating every hour on the hour and weighing in at 102…..97…..96.4 pounds.

So I don’t have stomach cancer.

To celebrate, Sean and I drove to the town hall to register to vote and to apply for a dump permit. One bad thing about this town is that there is no trash pickup. We have two options: bring our garbage to the dump, or hire Oliver’s Rubbish Removal to pick it up for us for $19.50 a month. You never really think about how inconvenient trash can be until you no longer have somewhere to put it.

In the afternoon I took Sam hiking; today felt like summer. I’ve never really been a dog person, but I think Sammy Oscar –or Pooper, as we call him — is turning me. Cats are great and all, but they don’t like to ride in the car with the windows down, jamming to the new radio 104.1 FM.

My favorite room in the house

Finally got internet back! YES!!!!! I don’t think I could’ve made it another day.

We ripped up the living room carpet last night and discovered that the hardwood floors underneath are awesome.

Sean is quite the handyman and he and I can’t stop making renovations on the house. Today, after days and days of no sleep and all work, we relaxed on the couch a bit.

And then, after a few hours, it was back to work. This time, to install a wine rack:

The house is a mess and there are boxes simply everywhere. But we can’t be bothered with it all because we OWN A HOUSE and not only that, but we have THEE BEST DOG EVER. Seriously, no accidents, not much chewing, a great sweet-loving pup. Sammy took some getting used to, but Sean and I are smitten.

And now I have two boys who gather in front of the television set on Saturday and Sunday afternoons to fart, eat, and watch football. Really, what more could a girl ask for.

A clean and happy house

January 3, 2008 at 2:36 pm | Posted in Happy | 2 Comments

I have a feeling tonight is going to be an early night at our house.  Sean and I took a hot bath in the jet tub, Sammy gave himself a lick bath, and all three of us are having a hard time keeping our eyes open and eight o’clock hasn’t even rolled around.

I’ve been working an 8:30 to 5 schedule at work because I am currently training one of our new hires.  I feel pretty honored because I have only been with the company for six months and some of the trainers have been here for six years!  I must be doing something right, as Sean says, “You’re management material, baby”.

Getting home from work so early is fantastic.  I get to play with my boys for  almost four hours before we all tuck in for the night.  AND I get Saturday off this weekend.   When did life get so amazingly wonderful?

Merry Christmas, Mama!

December 15, 2007 at 9:55 pm | Posted in family, Happy, Love, Memories | 2 Comments

Since we were originally planning on moving today, I had the day off from work. Sean and I decided to go out to breakfast and head over to Cabela’s, our local camping store, and then to pick up a computer for my mama for Christmas.

Mom’s old computer was her Christmas present a few years ago, I can’t remember where I found it, but it was old and was attacked by a virus and hasn’t worked in months. Before it crashed, she loved to sign onto her computer at night to read this blog and to write my sister and me a nightly email. She didn’t usually have much to say, but still I’ve been missing her daily messages and I know she missed them, too.

So we bought her a used computer this morning and since Sean caught my cold, I drove to her house today to set it up while he slept.

The conversation went like this:

“Hi Mom! We bought you your Christmas present, actually, it’s from Carrie, Laura, Sean and me. Guess what it is!”

“Well, I don’t know. What could it be?”

“I’ll give you a hint: it starts with “C”!”

“Ooh, a candy cane?” (starts singing the “C” is for the candy cane around the Christmas tree lyric from Dean Martin’s Christmas Alphabet)

“No, it’s a COMPUTER!!!!”

She doesn’t have much, and she doesn’t usually need much; this is something I needed. I missed reading her emails at night. I didn’t like that she couldn’t keep up with us through my blog.

When we set it up and found out that this new computer was not yet capable for dial-up (what’s dial-up?), we headed to a local mall together to buy an external modem.

Mom and I sang Christmas carols the whole way. She bought me Josh Groban’s Christmas album to say thank you for her present and we picked up lunch as we sang along to our holiday favorites.

At my mama’s house, she let me open my Christmas presents (which include this awesome handmade scarf [see above picture] I had asked for) and gave me Sean’s and Sammy Oscar’s gifts to take home.

Here’s the first of many emails to come:

Hi girls 🙂 🙂
MERRY CHRISTMAS !!! I just wanted to send a big THANK-YOU to you both (and Laura and Sean too 🙂 for my new computer. I love it!! I didn’t realize how much I missed it til I got back on-line 🙂
I hope you are enjoying the weekend. They were predicting nasty weather but maybe it won’t amount to much. Anyway thanx again 🙂
Luv ya 🙂 🙂 Til next time…

Sean isn’t a big fan of Christmas, he sees traffic and money and hassle, but I’ve always been absolutely in love with this holiday, I get that from my mom. I’m hoping Sean will come to love this holiday, too.

Today was the relaxing holiday cheer I’ve been craving.

Out of sadness, joy.

Sean’s aunt died this morning. He doesn’t know yet, and right now he is picking up his luggage and on his way home from the airport. His dad called this morning to tell me and asked me not to tell Sean until he got home, no need to make Sean dwell on the loss of a loved one as he sits on a three hour flight.

Although I’ve already talked to Sean twice today, he still is unaware. It has been hard not telling him, but his Dad is right…wait until he gets home.

While waiting for his plane to land, the lady from American Lab Rescue called me:

“We’ve received your application to adopt Oscar. Your application was wonderful. You and Sean will make the perfect home for Oscar. PS. He’s missing half an ear, but he is the most loving and well trained dog, do you still want him?”

I explained to the woman that YES! we want Oscar. But we won’t have our house until Wednesday, and Sean is unaware that his aunt died this morning. I asked her if we could wait a week or two before picking our new baby up for his new forever home.

No problem, she said, do you want to maybe meet Oscar beforehand? You could go see him today, the address is…

I’m hoping that when Sean comes home and I have to tell him about the loss of his very young aunt, Oscar will make him feel a little better. This is turning out to be quite a difficult holiday season thus far.
