Two new gems

I finally used my fish credit at Aquatic Wildlife today and reactivated our old goldfish tank with some ugly fish. These are parrots. They remind me of that game where you stuff as many marshmallows as physically possible (without choking or throwing up) into your mouth, and then say “CHUBBY BUNNY!”. These fish are in a constant state of chubby bunny.

At the pet store, I told the fish guy that I had an empty 29-gallon tank and I wanted ugly personable fish. He hit it right on the nose when he suggested these guys.

So blogworld, would you like to help with the naming process?

I am waiting for an important call.

Thanks to the 21st century and the luxury of having a cell phone, this waiting allows me to go about my usual day rather than sitting at home contemplating whether or not the landline will ring. However, I find myself sitting at home anyway just in case my trusty Verizon Wireless phone happens to ring while I’m waiting in line at a department store.

I picture the scenario of the phone ringing in the middle of a transaction, forcing me to throw my credit card at the clerk and telling her to Keep it. This call is important.

This call is a phone interview for a new job. A new prospective. A job that pays way more money than the post office, and offers benefits. Benefits. I don’t even know how it feels to have my own insurance. This would mean that I could actually go to the dentist regularly, or see a doctor without worrying that I’ll be dishing out hundreds of dollars.

Hold on, the phone is ringing.

***

Well, that went well. I guess. I now have a ‘real-life’ interview for next Tuesday.

<stress level decreases>

I was so nervous when the woman called me. I had swarms of butterflies. I paced around the living room. I wondered if the woman on the other end of the phone could feel my sweaty palms.

***

Now that I no longer have to wait for the phone to ring, I have a confession to make.

I am a fish addict.

I went to the pet store this morning to buy some driftwood for my sucker fish. And to my amazement, all of the aquariums were on sale. You have no idea how hard it was for me to buy that small piece of aquatic wood for $3.99 and walk out without a new tank. You might as well lock an alcoholic in a store that is giving away free beer.

The real test comes later when I tell Sean that they are offering 5-gallon tanks for $30. Let’s see if he can convince me that that hypothetical free beer they are selling is really liquid draino and honestly?  we don’t need another fish tank.

Froggly love

Okay, so are my frogs mating, hugging, or strangling each other?

Name the fishes contest!!!

Here is where you can make a difference in the lives of two sweet little Goldfish. Sean and I have decided to let YOU name our new babies!

Here they are! Drumroll please…

Fish A

Fish B

You can name them after your crazy bearded hippie uncle, or your first pet. Name them after your favorite coworker, or your favorite movie star. Or get your kids involved and make this a fun family project. The possibilities are endless!

both fishes

So leave your favorite names in comments and please be specific on which fish you think best fits each name. For example, if you think Fish B looks more like a Chuck than Fish A, tell me who your name will be for.

Let’s put on our thinking caps and name these babies to make them feel more at home in their new home!

(Names of our other fish are Ella, Molly, Spud, Lir, Storm, Cammie, Lucy, Indie, Luna, Egor, Chuck, Poe, Miller, Bo, Leah, and Patrick Ireland.)

Good luck everyone and may the best name win!

My ideal and very ugly children

Orandas

I was told when I bought goldfish that they are especially messy fish. I think the term “dirty” was thrown in a few times as well. And the first time that Sean ever saw one of our goldfish poop, it was if he was seeing a lunar eclipse for the first time.

“What is that!?” Sean asked, and when I told him it was poop he acted shocked and appalled at the same time. Perhaps this reaction was due to the fact that goldfish poop is as long as the goldfish itself. Thankfully we have a great filtration system, so that their digestive systems don’t get in the way of us loving them incredibly much.

Having goldfish is sort of like having children. They poop just as much, if not more, and they are constantly wanting to be fed. Lucky for us, the fish don’t require a college education and they don’t talk back.

I think perhaps I need to get out of the house more often. Anyone want to hire me to pet sit?
