I am dreading the Superbowl

January 31, 2008 at 9:48 pm | Posted in silly pants | 3 Comments

In honor of the stupid Superbowl, I’m posting the video of Sean and me watching last year’s national anthem.  One. More. Day. Of. Football.

This, I think, is cause for celebration.

If I could take away his stress, I would.

Dog vs. cat

January 29, 2008 at 6:15 pm | Posted in News, Puppy, sisters | 6 Comments

I went in for an abdominal CAT Scan this afternoon, dragging my feet behind me. My sister knew how nervous I have been over the last few weeks for this silly procedure so she accompanied me to the hospital. I wasn’t told any results and I’m glad it is over. Wipes brow.

All day I told my sister about how Sammy has turned me into a dog person. Seriously. Look at my blog. Look at his blog. It’s obvious that I love this dog, and it is pretty hard for everyone he meets not to fall in love with him. He is the kind of dog that makes you feel enriched at the sight of his cute little puppy eyes.

I wont go willingly. I’ve got 24 years of being a cat person under my belt and I would still take a cat’s side in a court of law. But now I’ve even become addicted to seeing Sam interact with OTHER dogs, too. I think I love going to the dog park more than he does. It’s almost as if I like dogs! Weird.

I brought my camera with me to my two(!) visits to the dog park today, and I discovered that I love to photograph dogs.

So I started a Dog Park blog.

I used to love children’s photography, but I never felt comfortable sharing my photos with anyone because a lot of parents are protective of who should view their child’s picture. I have a feeling that even though I didn’t ask these dogs’ parents if I could post their pictures online, no one will mind. In fact, some of the owners asked if I could make copies of the shots and bring them back to the dog park.

So go visit the new site and tell me what type of person you are in comments: Dog or Cat.

A typical morning consists of Sean waking up before dawn, showering, feeding Sam and taking him outside, coming upstairs to kiss me goodbye, and Sam crawling back to bed.

I wake up a little before nine (I work second shift), wrestle Sam out of bed because he is lazier than we are, walk him, check blogs, take a shower and dress, walk him, put him in his cage and head to work.

Our routine has become a bit more stable over the weeks, and we all know what is to be expected once the first set of alarms goes off.

Sammy hates the mornings we go to work. He clings to me like a baby Koala. He sleeps at my feet, whines, pouts, licks, sniffs, sighs; a full blown Eeyore.

This morning I woke up thinking that I really really would like to hit the mall before work. I need a few new articles of clothing and I don’t have to be to work for two more hours.

Sam isn’t going to be happy.

So much fun!

We had a fantastic time at our sleepover last night! Gavin was the perfect guest and we spent the whole time playing. Gavin took some of these pictures with the camera remote for the sleepover video:

However, having a five year old around is tiring; Sean, Sam, and I — recovering from a child-hangover — slept the whole afternoon.

We love you, Gavin!

I hit every red light on my drive home from work tonight. Don’t you hate it when that happens?

Suddenly I found myself sitting in the cafeteria being coerced into registering for college.  Peer pressure, I guess, my coworker decided to enroll in two IT 16-week long online courses and within two minutes I had the college registrars on the phone.

My company pays for me to go to college, and I’ve always been a little computer geeky, so this will be a good opportunity to get some tech support recognition under my belt.  And for free!

Online college is no UConn — there will be no concerts or writing seminars, streaking through the halls at 3AM, underage drinking, or dining halls — but I am excited nonetheless.

Learning?  For free?  What is this phenomenon you speak of?

Is football season over yet?

Having a new house has its advantages.  For instance, friends like to come over and bring homemade cakes and flowers.

On Sunday night, we lit our first fire in the fireplace….

…and Sarah and Greg came over to watch the Giants beat the Packers in the qualifying game for the superbowl.

They baked us a cheesecake for the game and we all sat around for hours, the boys enjoying themselves, and Sarah and I pretending to enjoy ourselves, while football season died down to almost the LAST GAME.  Praise Allah and all that is good.

I don’t understand football.  I mean, I get the game — a bunch of men in helmets and tights run a football down a field and have four chances to make it to the yellow line.  They jump on each other, run into each other, and break each others’ teeth and bones, Yippee — but what I don’t understand is why men feel the success of their team is a matter of life and death.

Watch Sean’s reaction to when the Giants win:

I don’t get it.  Why is the superbowl such a huge deal?  It happens every. year.

A most important letter

January 21, 2008 at 10:05 pm | Posted in family, sisters, Society | 8 Comments

I wanted to share a letter that my sister Carrie wrote to the governor in support of gay marriage. My eyes teared a bit when I read it, because I want marriage and more for Carrie and Laura.

Dear Governor Rell,

I am writing to you in favor of making gay marriage legal
in the state of Connecticut. I am engaged to my girlfriend Laura.
We are anxiously awaiting the state’s decision. I’ve lived in
Connecticut my entire life, but she and I are seriously considering
moving to Massachusetts if this resolution does not pass. What Laura and I want is not a “civil union.” We want what we feel we are entitled to: marriage. We know marriage is hard work, and we want the credit. Semantics are important. People look at her ring and ask,
“Can you even get married?” It isn’t fair that we should have
something separate from our friends, family, and parents.
I was registered to vote when I was 17 years old, and I
vote in every election. I’m 27 now and after ten years of watching,
and pulling that lever, I can feel that the times are changing.
People in Connecticut want to support each other. I urge you to
consider me and my family when you consider this issue.

Let’s hope that the people of our state can find it in their hearts to realize that Love Makes a Family.

Today has been chock full of fun things to do. Carrie and Laura came over in the morning, we celebrated Gavin’s 5th birthday party in the afternoon, and my friends Greg and Sarah are on their way over for some Sunday night football.

Until I can come up with a few hours to sort through pictures and videos, here is a video I took of Sam and I this morning as we attempted to dance to some Elton John. Sammy didn’t seem as thrilled as I was to be dancing.

Recounting the scene of the parachute undies

January 19, 2008 at 9:56 pm | Posted in Love, silly pants | 4 Comments

There I stand at the bottom of the stairs wearing nothing but a long hooded sweatshirt.

Sean has run upstairs to fetch my pajamas as I emerge from the tub.

Sammy Oscar joins me at the bottom of the stairs.

Sean arrives a few seconds later and throws a pair of pink panties down the stairs at me, followed by a pair of pajama pants. I catch them both, think nothing of it, and drape the pants over Sammy so that he can hold them while I dress –yes, I use my dog as a coat rack.

Sean stops me with a “WAAAIT! DON’T PUT THOSE ON YET!” and points to my underwear.

Hmph, I think, I must look pretty hot in my raggity John Deere sweatshirt for him to have that kind of reaction.

But then the always-proper Sean that we know and love appears and says, “Did you see the way your underwear soared down the stairs? It was almost balloon-like! Can I try that again?! That looked like a parachute!”

So I laugh and throw the underwear up to him so that he can toss them back down at me a few times.

I’m surprised he didn’t try to tie little army men to my pink panties.

Boys will be boys.
