Stressball monkey meets Martha Stewart

November 28, 2007 at 10:07 am | Posted in Home, Memories, NaBloPoMo | 10 Comments

My dreams consist of our new house daily.  I can’t remember the last time I slept soundly because each night I visit our new house in my dreams and come up with elaborate decorating schemes.  I’ll paint this room this color, I’ll put this picture here, the couch will go here, where did I put that hammer?

I’m stressing, but in a different way than Sean is stressing.  He’s thinking about things like the OKay to close, appraisals, chimney dampers, $$$.  We’re smoking again, to be expected at a time like this, and feeling the pressure of having to move to a new house in less than two weeks and be out of our condo by January 1st.

Anyone want to join us for a paint party, say… two weeks from now? 🙂

  1. Closing on a house during the holiday season definitely adds to the stress of life! We closed on our first house December 22nd and I remember trying to find a Christmas tree that close to the holiday. We didn’t want one prior as we knew we would e moving. We actually wanted one with a root ball to plant at the new house but I couldn’t find one of them either. I remember moving in two days prior to Christmas. Thank God for great friends! And at the same time, our condo owners were trying to get us to move before the end of the month so they could have it rented ASAP!

We are not actually looking for a new house yet, but have our eyes on an old farmhouse. We are hoping the price drops in the spring. If so, we’ll be going through the ordeal of trying to sell our house and move into a new one.

    Good luck!

  2. BTW, is that a picture of the house? It’s very cute!

  3. Ugh. We still haven’t painted anything in our house and we moved in July! I also haven’t done much decorative scheming. But I’m starting now. I’m on the lookout for home decor consignment shops or maybe some flea markets. We should go together sometime! Making a lived-in home is a slow process, though, so don’t worry too much about getting it all done at once.

  4. We, too, closed in December and have painted one room since. It’ll all come together, one thing at a time and before you know it you’ll be all settled in! After you sign the dotted line and realize that you really can afford the mortgage payment without having to live on Ramen noodles alone, you’ll sleep!

  5. A friend of mine who is a decorator gave me great advice when we bought our first home 11 years ago. She said “you need to live in your house for a few months before you start changing the paint colors and making big furniture decisions. The rooms you think you will use the most is usually not the case. Typically, the decorator choices you make initially are not the ones you end up able to live with either.” Her advice has served us well.

Whatever you choose, the front of your house is absolutely charming and from the pictures we have seen, it is really very nice. Congratulations!!!

  6. Ripping down the wall-paper in my old apartment today and will handle it over hopefully tomorrow… I just hate moving, it´s so much work!

But painting is done quite fast – so: Have fun and hopefully be quite done for Christmas!

  7. The tip we had, that turned out to be totally true goes something like this…

If after six months you still have boxes or stuff you have not touched that you packed up when you moved, sell them, or give them away.

The only problem with this idea is that we are hoarders.

  8. i could so use the break from the west coast. 😛 too bad i can’t. i’m excited to see pictures of what you end up doing at your new house!

  9. Awesome. The house looks great. I have plenty of painting supplies for you guys to use. Maybe I’ll even kick in a little labor!

  10. Laur, I toaly agree with Charlotte. I found that out when we moved onto Applewood Ln. We painted so quickly and the house didnt get a sprit yet.. ( I know its sounds like flakey A.Sanny spouting again.. but hon you will know what I mean when you start to build your life there. ) I think a home has feeling about it. Tom and I painted the first year we were at this house 1 room at a time, and it worked out so much better. Its weird but even the way the light comes in a room can make room look different.. enjoy your decorating.. its a fun journey and when its all done, it can feel like a let down.. Have fun honey and were so excited for you guys..I know its going to be awesome!! I love you guys
