Sucky first attempt

Haha. This is fun. Today is my day off and I’ve just been sitting in front of my trusty Casio keyboard and computer singing and practicing my piano skills. I’ve been doing it for almost five hours, no lie. I am reminded of that mentally ill patient named Polly in the movie Girl Interrupted who breaks into the music room of the institution and when caught, says, “I’m feeling very musical today.”

I’m making up for weeks of not singing and not playing with a cheesy karaoke mic and lyrics found on Google.

This is that Wailin’ Jennys tune I posted last week, Long Time Traveler. I’m not very good at the alto part yet, as you can hear, and I would’ve sung the low alto part too but my camera batteries kicked the bucket. Meg, we have to learn this song.

And then there is one of my favorite song-stories, The Lighthouse’s Tale by Nickel Creek. I sing this one a lot at karaoke, usually solely for my own pleasure because it is long and everyone in the bar is way to drunk to listen to this many words. I love that this story is told from the perspective of a lighthouse.

The last verse cuts out (damn batteries), so I’ll write the lyrics here:

I am a lighthouse worn by the weather and the waves
And though I’m empty I still warn the sailors on their way

And now I should get to doing the dishes and making dinner before my poor stressed out Love gets home from work. Less than two weeks until the house closing. Let the fun begin.

  1. Dude, you are such a cute musical geek.

  2. So true. I am as music geek as they come.

  3. Have you seen “Singstar” on the Playstation 2?

You would so totally be addicted to it. And you would be good at it too.

Imagine staves of music scrolling past, with pop music videos in the background, and you have to sing in tune to it with a microphone – (here’s the good bit) – in competition with your friends, who are singing along with you.

We had a very loud, very drunken night in a month back with friends playing it. I surprised everybody with my total lack of talent 🙂

  4. Lighthouse is one of my favorite songs too! Miss you.
